The Power to Thrive Program is Pawsitively 4 Pink’s core financial assistance initiative for low-income women diagnosed with breast cancer in Massachusetts. It is financial help breast cancer patients can count on: the program pays essential living expenses (rent, mortgage, utilities, groceries, and transportation) directly to service providers, during treatment and for up to six months after treatment ends.
The Power to Thrive Program ensures that women facing breast cancer do not have to choose between healing and basic survival.
Through this program, Pawsitively 4 Pink provides financial assistance and support services that help women maintain stability during treatment and for up to six months after treatment ends. Because when basic needs are met, women can focus on what matters most: their health, their families, and their future.

Think of Power to Thrive as a breast cancer emergency fund for the bills that can’t wait. Depending on individual circumstances, assistance may include support for essential living expenses such as:

A Mother's Livelihood at Risk
When Bitadni was diagnosed with breast cancer, her life changed overnight. She and her husband had run an in-home daycare for nearly 18 years, caring for children in their community.

How much financial assistance can I receive?
Grant amounts vary based on need and available funds, typically covering major expenses like several months of rent or mortgage payments, utility bills, and transportation. On average, women receive $2,500–$4,500 in direct support. Every application is reviewed individually and confidentially.
Is the money paid to me directly?
No. Grants are paid directly to your service providers (landlord, mortgage company, utility provider), which means no tax complications for you and full transparency for our donors.
Can I apply if I've finished treatment?
Yes. Power to Thrive supports women during treatment and for up to six months after treatment ends, because financial recovery takes longer than the last appointment.
Does Power to Thrive help with housing?
Yes. Breast cancer housing assistance is the biggest part of what we do. Power to Thrive can pay rent or mortgage directly to your landlord or lender so you can stay in your home during treatment. You can apply for assistance here.

Financial toxicity is the term doctors use for the financial strain cancer puts on patients and families: medical bills, plus lost income and everyday costs that keep coming during treatment.
